Through a variety of techniques, I create two-dimensional works that explore themes of natural history, historical occurrence, memory, and cycles. On an aesthetic level, I am interested in complexity of texture and detail, and simplicity of design. I often take a minimalist approach by painting a single object in white space, but I focus on the intricacies of the object. I use ink in the majority of my work, because I love the challenge of using a permanent medium. I also love the interaction ink has with water, and over the years I have learned to manipulate the medium to create fine lines and variations that I could not achieve using any other material. I often embellish my drawings and paintings with gold, silver, and copper. Adding a metal component means the piece will change with the light and will be interesting from far away, as well as up close. I received my Master of Fine Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I studied Print Media and Painting. I have exhibited internationally, and my work is in private collections around the world. I currently live in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
