Bruno Ollé

b. 1983

Biography

Calling on the artistic tradition of the readymade, Bruno Ollé explores individual memory and the relocation of objects. The provenance of materials and the process by which they are transformed are integral aspects of his work. Demonstrative of Ollé’s preference for found materials, his paintings on steel are made from discarded industrial steel sheets usually employed in the fabrication of cars. The artist recycles, cuts, paints and reassembles the sheets to create monochromatic collages. The text itself is sometimes cut to reveal fragments of letters in abstract compositions. His Circus series has its origins in an abandoned paint factory, close to Ollé’s hometown of Alella (Spain), where the artist first came across a selection of Pantone colour plates. Adhering to a standardised format, these plates have become an essential tool for Ollé, allowing him to create variation within the repetition of these forms. Ollé's works exist in a number of notable collections, including those owned by the founders of Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg) and WhatsApp (Jan Koum).
