Edwin Whitesinger
Biography
Edwin is a self-taught Navajo artist who lives in the small community of Chinle, Arizona. Chile is located at the entrance of the Canyon De Chelly National Monument on the Navajo Reservation. He identifies himself as one who is of the "Red Bottom People" clan born for the "Near the Water People" clan in Navajo. His hobbies include photography, camping, fishing, hiking and collecting antiques. He began drawing at an early age and was greatly inspired by his uncles who were accomplished artists. While attending Chinle High School, he became influenced by the works of Jim Abieta, the late Robert Draper, Sr. and other Navajo artists. Like Abieta and Draper, Edwin paints and draws the familiar tranquil landscapes and the vast openness of the Navajoland and its people. His penchant of being patient and meticulous is evident in his detailed drawings and paintings of sceneries and people of his homeland. He uses the medium of oil painting, watercolor, pastels and acrylic as a medium for transferring his visual imagination onto paper. When given opportunity Edwin continues to travel to various art shows both locally and throughout the Southwest. Some of Edwin's accomplishments include several awards.
