Gilbert Decock
Born 1928
Gilbert Decock followed his training at the Academy of Bruges. In 1966 he obtained the European prize for painting and in 1967 the prize of the city of Knokke. From 1966 to 1968 he was a member of the Geoform group. His oeuvre is geometrically abstract. Gilbert Decock was one of the most outspoken defenders of pure hard abstraction in Belgium. He was a painter, sculptor and screen printer as a designer of reliefs and jewelery. He limited himself to circle and square, the circle representing infinity (the divine), and the square the boundary (the earthly). In addition, the artist used a limited color palette, with white, black and gray as the main tones.
