Biography

Katherine Keltner is a Brooklyn-based artist whose body of work includes paintings; drawings; photo-based, mixed media collages; installations; and artist’s books. Keltner’s works are autobiographical in nature and utilize personal effects to construct various portraits and visual diaries that reveal narratives from her life that peek out from otherwise abstract compositions. Raised in New York, she earned her AB from Dartmouth College and her MFA from American University, where she was recruited by Barbara Rose for the Art in Italy program after working as an assistant to Ms. Rose. Her graduate studies also include time at Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and Brooklyn College MFA, where she had the privilege of working with Elizabeth Murray. Her work has been exhibited at galleries and art fairs nationally and internationally. Recent projects include a two-person show, Katherine Keltner + Luc Dubois – Unbound: Points of Encounters, at The Katzen Arts Center, American University Museum, a solo show, Picturing Me, at Sweet Lorraine Gallery in Brooklyn, and Transform at Alfa Gallery in Miami; reviews and features in publications such as Art F City, ARTINFO, and the L Magazine; the publication of articles on Barbara Rose and Elizabeth Murray, and an essay "Multiplicities from Motherhood: How the Changing Representation of the Female Body as Mother Widens the Discourse on Issues of Support;" and an artist’s talk at Hunter College. Keltner is co-editor of and a contributing writer for POV Arts and was a 2018 recipient of an artist’s grant from Volumes, Paris, a 2016 Ragdale Fellow and the 2016 Artist-in-Residence at Rhombus Space, as well as a fellowship recipient at Vermont Studio Center.
