Lee Myoung Ho

b. 1975 • South korea

Biography

Born in 1975, Myoung Ho Lee is a Korean artist known for his photographs of solitary trees placed in vast natural landscapes. Lee extracts these trees from their surroundings by placing massive white canvases behind them, playing with the viewer’s perception of scale and questioning the relationship between art and nature. Through these serene images, he raises concerns regarding artificiality and references the traditions of both Eastern and Western landscape painting and photography. Lee’s work can be found in multiple collections around the world including the J. Paul Getty Museum; Los Angeles, the National Museum of Contemporary Art; Gyeonggi, Korea, the Pushkin Museum; Moscow, Russia, and the National Library of France; Paris. Lee lives and works in South Korea.
