Roger Capron

1922 – 2006

Biography

Born in Vicennes in 1922, Roger Capron began drawing a young age. He studied at the École des Arts Appliqués à l’Industrie (School of Applied Arts & Industry) in Paris from 1939 to 1943 where he would later become a professor of drawing. Capron moved to Vallauris and started a ceramics workshop, l`Atelier Callis, with fellow artist Robert Picault. Capron and Picault produced decorative and household objects for everyday use. Their business and popularity grew, and Capron bought disused pottery and began producing ceramics-he eventually began making more popular items like tables. Most of Capron’s work is signed and highly sought today.
