Silas Shabelewska

Silas Shabelewska is an artist, working mostly with analog photography. She is a process-oriented purist, who eschews any digital alteration in her work. Silas Shabelewska (American-French, b.1963 in Monaco). Shabelewska shot her first roll of film when she was 14. Through her early photographic exploration's, the flirty, atmospheric Monte-Carlo Series ensued, shot in abandoned 19th century villas in and around Monte-Carlo. In 1984, Shabelewska enrolled at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where she majored in photography, film and video. Since the late 80’s, Shabelewska has worked predominantly in photography and film and has photographed art world personalities such as Leo Castelli and Helmut Newton (in Monte-Carlo in 1995). Past solo shows include: The Vermeer Series (Soufer Gallery, New York); Roads America (Björn Ressle Fine Art, New York); Roads: America (Gallery Kayafas, Boston); Roads: America (Briggs Robinson Gallery at Soho House, New York); Silas Shabelewska (Patrick Verelst Gallery, Antwerp, Belgium) and PEACE & LOVE (Soufer Gallery, New York). Her work PEACE # 5 was featured in 2008 in O magazine (Oprah Winfrey). Silas Shabelewska work, LOVE # 7 was exhibited at the New Orleans Museum of Art’s 2009 exhibtion "The Art of Caring a look at life through photography" (2009). A book form that exhibition features her work. Shabelewska’s work has also been showcased in many group exhibitions in Washington, DC, Miami, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Ft. Lauderdale, Corpus Christi and Antwerp, Belgium. She lives and works in New York City with her husband, Norwegian-born artist Andre von Morisse. Since 2014, she is the owner and director of Silas von Morisse gallery (formerly ART 3) located in New York NY.
