Sotheby’s is honoured to present Elixir of Life: Photographs from The Olbricht Collection, one of the most significant private collections in Europe. Spanning centuries and a wide range of media, Thomas Olbricht’s collection reflects a deep curiosity and passion for both historical and contemporary works. Photography has held a special place in his collection since 1996, having then made his first photographic acquisitions–five works by Cindy Sherman–after seeing her work through a SoHo gallery window. Over the past three decades, Olbricht has generously lent works from his collection to museums worldwide, and it has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, scholarly catalogues, and artist monographs.
