This Spring Prints and Multiples celebrates art and life, from Impressionism to Pop Art. Portraits of friends and lovers include Pablo Picasso's exuberant lithograph of Françoise Gilot Figure au corsage rayé, and the gentler early study of Marie-Thérèse Walter Visage de Marie-Thérèse. In Edgar Degas’s rare etching Manet assis, tourne a droit, the artist Édouard Manet sits in a studio, canvases stacked in the background, elegantly attired. David Hockney’s endearing Vertical Dogs, depicts his beloved Dachshunds Stanley and Boodgie. Andy Warhol’s series Truck, and Electric Chair elevate the ordinary and the disturbing in a blaze of colour. And the surreal finds many expressions, in Joan Miró’s large format carborundum etchings, Equinoxe, and Gargantua, René Magritte’s uncanny Paysage de Baucis, and the contemporary storytelling of Paula Rego’s Nursery Rhymes. Alongside Prints & Multiples, Contemporary Edition will run from 17–31 March, offering examples of contemporary printmaking by artists such as Banksy, Barbara Kruger, Damien Hirst, STIK, Yoshitomo Nara and iPad prints by David Hockney. An exhibition of Private Sale highlights will feature works by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Banksy.
