Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac
Founded in 1983, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac is an international contemporary art gallery, with five spaces across Europe, in London, Paris and Salzburg, and an expanding team in Asia. Representing over 60 artists – including Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, Gilbert & George, Adrian Ghenie, Antony Gormley, Alex Katz, Tony Cragg and Elizabeth Peyton – the gallery hosts a wide-ranging programme of over 40 solo and group exhibitions in its distinctive gallery spaces each year. Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac also represents a number of renowned artist’s estates, such as Judd Foundation, The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation and the Joseph Beuys estate, continuing to build upon their legacies. In addition, the gallery advises private and corporate collections, and provides curatorial expertise as a consultant to major museums and public institutions. Active in both the primary and secondary markets, Ropac also represents its artists at all major international art fairs. The gallery runs its own publishing house that produces catalogues and books to accompany its exhibitions, contributing to new scholarship by inviting prominent art historians, curators and writers to collaborate. Ropac's galleries, which span a total of 12,000 square metres, are located in London at Ely House, a five-floor listed mansion in Mayfair that was formerly the Bishop of Ely’s residence; two spaces in Paris, a townhouse in the Marais and an extensive twentieth-century ironworks factory in Pantin which was redeveloped to accommodate the display of large-scale artworks; in Salzburg at Villa Kast, a nineteenth-century townhouse in the Mirabell Gardens, as well as Salzburg Halle, a converted industrial space close to the historic city centre.
