Galleria Lorcan O'Neill Roma
Galleria Lorcan O'Neill focuses on presenting the work of established and emerging international artists in Italy and abroad. The gallery opened in 2003 with an exhibition of Richard Long sculpture and panels, all made in Rome. That was followed by Jeff Wall’s first exhibition in Italy, and included photographs made in Sicily and Rome. This pattern, of working closely with artists to make new work, became a characteristic element of our programme. The gallery represents international artists – including Martin Creed, Tracey Emin, Anselm Kiefer, Richard Long, Kiki Smith, Jeff Wall and Rachel Whiteread – many of whom showed in Italy for the first time in our space. A vital part of our programme is dedicated to exhibiting influential Italian artists, and over the years we have worked with Enrico Castellani, Francesco Clemente, Giorgio Griffa, Luigi Ontani and Emilio Prini. Betty Woodman, an American artist with a strong connection to Italy, made her last exhibition in our gallery in 2017. We also show and support a younger generation of artists, for whom we have played a pivotal role in helping establish their international reputations: Celia Hempton, Eddie Peake, Gianni Politi, Pietro Ruffo, and Prem Sahib. In 2013 the gallery moved from Trastevere to a building from the 1600s in the center of Rome. The new gallery opened with an exhibition of large-scale works by Enrico Castellani, Richard Long, and Jeff Wall - symbolising the gallery’s commitment to Italian and International artists working across different media. The gallery works closely with our artists in planning exhibitions and projects round the world, such as: an exhibition of new bronzes by Kiki Smith on Hydra, Greece; a permanent installation by Rachel Whiteread at Nevill Holt Opera House in Leicestershire; a major outdoor exhibition of Richard Long in the gardens of Houghton Hall, Norfolk.
