Biography

Achilles Gildo Rizzoli (1896–1981) was an American outsider artist known for his intricate architectural drawings and imaginative world-building. Born in Point Reyes, California, Rizzoli spent much of his life in San Francisco, where he worked as an architectural draftsman. Despite his formal training, Rizzoli remained largely anonymous during his lifetime, only gaining recognition posthumously. Rizzoli's work is characterized by elaborate drawings that often take the form of architectural renderings and maps, depicting an imaginary world exposition he called "Yield To Total Elation" (Y.T.T.E.). His unique style blends elements of neo-baroque architecture with personal symbolism, creating "portraits" of people in his life as fantastical buildings. These works were primarily exhibited in his home during the 1930s under the title Achilles Tectonic Exhibit Portfolio (A.T.E.P.). Rizzoli's contributions to outsider art have been celebrated for their creativity and depth, capturing the imagination of collectors and art enthusiasts. A film titled "Yield to Total Elation: The Life and Art of Achilles Rizzoli" further explores his life and artistic legacy, highlighting his unique vision and the personal narratives embedded in his art.
