Biography
Ablade Glover is an artist and professor of art education known for his figurative paintings representing snapshots of urban life. Considered one of Ghana's most important painters, Glover received many distinctions and awards reflecting his significance as an artist and educator both nationally and internationally. He received formal education in Ghana, United Kingdom, and in the United States where he received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University, in 1974. But it was during his studies in Newcastle where he developed the use of the spatula to paint what became his trademark. Glover’s work reveals the use of vibrant colors to represent his passion for life but also to depict elements of his country, such as the sun and the heat, and the joy. The diversity of fauna in Africa is also showcased through animated landscapes. His work can be found in the Imperial Palace Collection in Tokyo, Japan; UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France; and in Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and in the Africana Art Collection.
