Albert Lynch

Biography

Albert Lynch was a Peruvian painter best known for his academic watercolor, pastel, and oil portraiture of Victorian-era French women. Born in 1851 in Trujillo, Peru, he traveled to Paris in the late 19th century to study art at the l'École des Beaux-Arts, working under French academics such as Henri Lehmann and Jules Achille Noel. Exhibiting regularly in the Salon, Lynch eventually garnered a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1900, while also maintaining a career by providing illustrations for numerous novels of the day such as La Parisienne by Henry Becque and La Dame aux Camelias by Alexandre Dumas. Lynch is thought to have died in 1912 in Monaco, although there is historical incongruity on the dates of the artist’s birth and death. Ultimately, the records of Lynch’s life remained unconfirmed.
