Ambrus Gero
Biography
Ambrus Gero is a Hungarian visual artist who currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. He creates oil paintings, sculptures, digital collages, and public art that express his concept of United People, brotherhood, and global activism. Gero has had five solo exhibitions in Budapest, Hungary, as well as group exhibitions in the United States, Hungary, Slovenia, Denmark, and Germany. Recent group exhibitions have been in cooperation with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York (2019), Carlsberg City Gallery & Art Salon Exhibition during Copenhagen Photo Festival, Copenhagen (2019), Steuben Gallery and Pfizer Building at Pratt Institute in New York (2018), and Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, Germany (2010). Gero won the People’s Choice Award from Jackson’s Open Painting Prize in 2018. Gero has been a recipient of awards including The Most Positive Artist Award of Public and the Jury at Wam Design Gallery, Budapest (2008). Conceptual Garden, his first architectural design won first prize at the Vaci Green Competition. He is currently completing his Master of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute, majoring in Painting and Drawing. He received a scholarship award for the Pratt in Venice program as well as funding for his public art project titled Art Blankets for Picnic (2019). He was also awarded the Calrow Memorial and the Virginia Pratt Thaye Scholarships (2019).
