Biography

American/Australian – A “native” New Yorker, born in Hell’s Kitchen and raised uptown & in the Bronx. I have been living and working in South Williamsburg since receiving my MFA in Painting from Yale in 2005. My practice uses photographs I take on-site as well as found images and materials. I combine the imagery with traditional painting & drawing techniques constructing composite-compositions that endeavor to make some-kind of sense of our shared contemporary nightmare. Primarily using the mode of collage, my works engage the intersections between the visually-formal; patterning, repetition, layering and mirroring; with the conceptual; place, space, language, alongside a wide array of the visual manifestations and locations of power. In studio, I digitally manipulate much of the imagery and print onto various media (from canvas to silks, cottons, acetates, papers, vinyl and assorted poly-meshes). I then combine these elements with as many traditional techniques as necessary; painting, drawing, stenciling, stamping, silk-screening, sewing etc., the final compositions emerge onto stretched or unstretched canvas, works on paper or wood panels. In 2015 I co-founded the artist-run space Black Ball Projects. We became a Non-Profit Organization in 2019. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are in the process of restructuring ourselves into an online platform to continue our mission of helping fellow emerging artists, regardless of age.
