Anna Bauer is a German born painter, photographer and print maker living and working in Brooklyn. Her work is based on color, mark making and language. Her painting practice is momentum driven, the work revolves about making, the questions painting asked and the outcome of that. Each painting informs the next. Speaking four languages and having lived outside Germany for the past 16 years, language is a main interest of Bauer and influences her practice. Words end up in her etchings, mostly Spanish or Italian. Dates of making matter and are manifested. The print has a documentative quality. Bauer received her BFA at the School of Visual Arts and went to Dublin and Glasgow for her Master Studies. It was at the terrific print making facilities in Glasgow that her etching practice started, which she continues in a printmaking studio in Manhattan.
