Biography

Beth Shipley is a Brooklyn-based visual artist and educator working in the mediums of oil paint, gouache, collage and installation. She holds an MFA in painting and art criticism from Pratt Institute and a BS in studio art from Skidmore College. Her work has been exhibited widely, including shows at the Park Place Gallery, Soho20, Islip Art Museum, Central Features, Painting Center, Sheila Riggs and Leidy Galleries, Andrea Meislin Gallery, Geoffrey Young Gallery and Solar Grandjean de Montigny in Brazil. She has received grants from the City University of New York, Marymount Manhattan College, and Change, Inc. and residency fellowships from the Nave Project, Ecuador; Hambidge Center for the Creative Arts and Sciences, GA; Jentel Foundation, WY; Helen Wurlitzer Foundation, NM; Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, VA; Alfred and Trafford Klots Foundation (MICA), France, the Fundacion Valparaiso, Spain and the Vermont Studio Center, among others. She teaches as an associate professor at Marymount Manhattan College and currently serves as the chair of the Art and Art History department.
