Carlos Rosales-Silva
Carlos Rosales-Silva was born in El Paso, Texas and has lived throughout Texas along the border of the United States and Mexico. His practice considers a deep history of making that spans the complex visual communication of pre-colonial indigenous peoples to the intentional and functional color language of small businesses and homeowners in Brown neighborhoods. Formally he is obsessive about color, texture, and shape. Carlos has exhibited throughout Texas, and in Mexico City, New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City. He is currently an NYC Artist in Residence at Residency Unlimited for the 2020 session. Past residencies include Artpace in San Antonio, Texas (2018) and at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, NY (2017). His most recent exhibitions were a curatorial project at Spring Break Art Show in 2020 and a solo exhibition at Sadie Halie Projects in Minneapolis, MN in the summer of 2019. In 2019 Carlos founded the collaborative pedagogical and publishing project MFA Brown Art (www.mfabrownart.com). Carlos graduated from the University of Texas in 2017 and just graduated from the School of Visual Arts with an MFA in Fine Arts in May 2020. He currently lives and works in New York, NY.
