Chioma Ebinama
Biography
I am a Nigerian American artist based in Brooklyn. My work includes drawings, printmaking, collage, soft sculpture, and wearable art. Through these practices I explores myth and narrative as a medium for shaping identity, craft as tool for critical dialogue, and new visual motifs for articulating trauma. My drawings are composed of watercolor and ink painting, mono printing, collage on handmade papers. My work is part of a research based journey to find a visual language that can merge two identities: one fed on the privileges of living in a globalized post-modern world, the so-called and the other that seeks to celebrate, reconfigure, and preserve the visual and cultural West African traditions obscured in fortifying this so called “first world”.
