Biography

Alex and Chris Chowaniec are the Co Founders of Chowaniec Projects. Chris Chowaniec is the Founder of Dam Good Trips, an ecotourism company based in Vancouver, BC and Alex Chowaniec is an artist based in Brooklyn, NY. We are a sister duo visualizing climate action through art. Our studio and social practice is committed to working collaboratively with individuals, local businesses, non-profits, government and communities to realize projects that create access to nature, promote sustainability and accelerate climate action. Chowaniec Projects presented “How To Find Sanctuary in a Local, Accessible Experience of Nature, or Stardust Travel Agency”, a workshop and one-on-one performance at BombPop!Up’s “How To” at the National Academy of Design in New York. The piece guides each individual participant through the process of finding their own connection to nature and local trip planning via relevant, free resources. A limited edition of the accompanying journal joined Printed Matter's NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1, heartiest thanks to Ginger. Chowaniec Projects, in collaboration with musician Evelyn Frances, performed the project as part of Climate Week NYC, the largest climate action week in the world. We initially launched in 2017 with Stardust, a cross-platform project housed in a geodesic dome and a series of public programs in Canada, at Wall Space Gallery’s Train Yards space. The dome sanctuary and new communal engagement objects (interactive sculptures made of excess and up cycled foam) arrived in New York at 4 Times Square for the ChaShaMa gala.
