Chris Nau
Biography
Chris Nau’s work relates abstraction to fragments of the past. The figures in his paintings have been described as petrified house plants, contraption shrapnel, neo-fossils, and non-representational monuments. Nau’s work has recently been the subject of a solo show at Wellesley College of Art and at Galerie Kristine Hamann in Wismar, Germany. He has exhibited at The Drawing Center in New York, The Boston Center for the Arts, The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Tegnerforbundet Center for Drawing in Olso, Norway and in other galleries in Berlin, London, Boston, Seattle, Memphis, Atlanta, and New York. Nau is a recipient of The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, The New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, and artist residencies at Dieu Donné in New York City and the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Otis, Oregon.
