Cosimo Casoni
Biography
Cosimo Casoni is a painter from Florence living in Milan and was working as an artist in residence at Depot over a 3 month period during 2019. His work has recently become increasingly conditioned by daily life. He always keeps a close eye on what goes on around him: from the walls of buildings in the street to the landscapes of Italy where he’s based as well as being informed by his passion of skateboarding. He combines references to marked surfaces caused when skateboarding with figurative elements, painted in oil, in search of new geographies of form. He has always been fascinated by the interaction between the figurative and the abstract. He is interested in conveying a certain elegance and refinement through apparently “coarse”, brusque actions. Cosimo has used his time at Depot to experiment with and develop new ideas for paintings.
