Biography

Daniela Klooster is an visual artist from Curaçao. She mainly paint from memory. Daniela combines mythical youth figures with icons from the Caribbean with which she make a direct but also indirect reference to her own origins. Location is an important theme in her work, it gives guidance in an environment where as an outsider she never feel completely at home. The latest series of works combines bright colors with the two opposites of black and white. With a mother from the Dominican Republic and a father from Curaçao, Daniela always have the feeling that she don't belong anywhere. This outsider's view and duality is precisely the reason for her to look for connections in both the structure of the work and in her own search for completeness.
