Diann Bauer
Biography
Diann Bauer is an artist and writer based in London. She works independently and is also part of two ongoing collective projects: the working group Laboria Cuboniks, with whom she wrote Xenofeminism: A Politics of Alienation, and the collaboration A.S.T., whose focus is speculative urbanism and climate change. Bauer’s independent work focuses on questions of time, in particular the disjunction between our experience of it and how it appears to function (or not) at scales beyond the human, through a range of media including video, installation, drawing and sculpture. Bauer studied art and architecture at the Cooper Union and has an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, London. She has screened and exhibited internationally including at Tate Britain, the ICA and The Showroom, London; The Sharjah Biennale 13, UAE; The Busan Biennale, Korea; Deste Foundation, Athens; and The New Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park, New York. Bauer received an Honorary Mention as part of Collide International Award 2018. Her work Scalar Oscillation, 2018 explores the significance of the extremes of time and scale operating in much of modern physics. Through the use of text, graphics, animations and immersive sound, Diann Bauer, in collaboration with composer Seth Ayyaz, explores the difference between the complex features of time as they are understood in physics, and temporality - or the more everyday experience of time's passage.
