Biography

Dionis Ortiz is an interdisciplinary artist, community art producer and educator based in Harlem. His work explores a fantastical coming of age story illustrating his Dominican American experience, masculinity, vulnerability, the supernatural, family, and spirituality. Through his talent, commitment to the arts and the community, Ortiz was recently selected to be an Artist-in-Residence at Children’s Museum of Manhattan and Materials for the Arts, and a fellow for The Laundromat Project’s Create Change program and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop’s Studio Immersion Project. In the past Ortiz has been a recipient of numerous grants and awards such as the Rema Hort Artist Community Engagement grant and Hunter College President’s Award. A former participant of The Bronx Museum of the Arts’ AIM program, the artist has also won public art commissions from Harlem River Park Fund. He holds a BFA from SUNY Purchase College and an MFA from Hunter College.
