Biography

Donald Grant was a British painter best known for his intensely realistic depictions of African wildlife in the Savannah. Rendering animals like elephants, cheetahs, and hippopotami with richly layered oil on canvas, his work is recognizable for its use of sweeping, cinematic compositions based on photographs. Grant used much of his profits from painting sales to benefit nature and wildlife conservation funds around the world, thereby helping preserve the animals he lovingly depicted. Born in 1930 in North Shields, United Kingdom, he went on to work as a technical illustrator and freelance advertising illustrator for the British Army and Rolls Royce. The artist died in 2001 in the United Kingdom.
