Biography

Elena Soterakis is a Brooklyn based painter and mixed media artist whose work explores themes of disposability and impending ecological disaster, in the age of the Anthropocene. Her landscapes capture the fragility of the 21st environment and have been exhibited throughout the country and internationally, with recent exhibitions at the Matsudo Science in Art Festival in Tokyo, Japan, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, and SUPERCOLLIDER in Los Angeles, NARS Foundation in Brooklyn, JONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY in New Orleans, and The Center for Contemporary Political Art in Washington D.C. Soterakis is the founding director of BioBAT Art Space, the first exhibition space in New York City entirely dedicated to the intersection of Science, Art, and Technology, located in the Brooklyn Army Terminal. She is also a founding member of Beyond Earth, an international space art collective dedicated to exploring the frontiers of space and art. In 2022 their DNA Space Art Time Capsule with be launched to moon. Soterakis received her MFA from the New York Academy of Art and a BFA from the School of Visual Arts.
