Biography

Erin Burrell was born in 1978 in Salt Lake City, Utah and lives and works in Los Angeles. He studied at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Burrell has exhibited at Space15Twenty, LA, La Luz De Jesus Gallery, LA, Berlin Collective, Berlin. Most recent exhibitions include: Good Intentions, Subliminal Projects, Los Angeles (2013), Periphery Print Exchange, Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow, Laguna Beach, curated by Camilla Taylor (2013). Erin Burrell's work is influenced and affected by music, film, and the social community that surrounds him in Los Angeles, he focuses on the discovery of new ways to create portraits composed of mylar, acrylic, graphite and spray paint to form sub-layered drawings and sculptures. The painting’s story and title seem to be the perfect setup for conflicting human impulses toward civilization. Well-educated men regress to a primitive state in both sexual or violent behavior without leadership. How does this play out, and what happens to their moral or immortality, when they have been stripped of both power and duties in a natural environment?
