Biography

Turkish-born American b 1978 - İlknur Demirkoparan is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans across painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and digital media. While her earlier work evokes the bizarre and often baffling narratives of identity and otherness, with her more recent work, her interest shifts towards a theoretical exploration of Turkish aesthetics and material culture. She has performed and exhibited her work locally and internationally including at the Berlin Biennial Art Wiki Project 2012, Highways Performance Space and Gallery in Los Angeles, and FAR Bazaar 2017. She has received an MFA in Art from California Institute of the Arts and a BA in Art from the University of California, Riverside. Demirkoparan is also the co-founder of the MinEastry of Postcollapse Art and Culture; a curatorial project focusing on artists from Eastern Europe, Western and Central Asia, and their diasporas since the fall of Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain. She currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
