Ito Nisaburo

1910 – 1980

Biography

Nisaburo Ito was born in Kyoto in 1910 according to the standard reference book by Helen Merritt (see bibliography below). According to other sources the year of his birth was 1905. Nisaburo Ito had studied art as a student of Tsuchida Bakusen at the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting. The number of designs by the artist are quite abundant. And the prints by Ito Nisaburo are a bit different in style. Some are rather "minimalistic" in composition and colors. They were made in the tradition of Chinese and Japanese paintings. Other designs remind us more of the popular artisan designs in shin hanga style made by Uchida with Tokuriki Tomikichiro.
