Jack Bishop
Jack Bishop is originally from Quispamsis, NB and received a BFA from NSCAD in 2007. He now lives and works in Halifax. Jack has received creation grants from Arts NB, Arts NS, and the Canada Council for the Arts, and was recently included in “The Painting Project”, a major survey exhibition of contemporary painting in Canada at Galerie L’UQAM in Montreal. His work is in numerous public and private collections across Canada. 'My paintings are dense representations of car-culture, consumerism, and urban sprawl. They revisit Canadian landscape tradition in terms not of natural but rather of commercial space, where ubiquitous retail outlets dictate use of the land and proclaim its occupation. In this work, I aim to subvert romanticized ideas of untouched Canadian wilderness, iconized historically in works such as the Group of Seven.'
