Jane Peterson (1876–1965) was an influential American painter known for her vibrant use of color and her contributions to both Impressionism and Expressionism. Born in 1876, Peterson developed a distinctive style characterized by broad swaths of color and a keen interest in capturing light and spontaneous moments. Her subjects ranged from still lifes to beach scenes along the Massachusetts coast, as well as scenes inspired by her extensive travels. Peterson's work is celebrated for its dynamic composition and bold palette, earning her a place in prestigious collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of the City of New York, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She was a fellow of the National Academy of Design and shared her expertise as an instructor at the Art Students League from 1913 to 1919.
