Jean-pierre Raynaud
Born 1939
Jean-Pierre Raynaud was born in Courbevoie in 1939. His career began in 1964, in Paris, with the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture. From that time on, his work has been exhibited all around the world. (Japan, Korea, United Arab Emirates, Cuba, Belgium). His house of La Celle Saint-Cloud, built in 1969, is his first significant piece of artwork. He lived in this house entirely covered with white tiled for24 years, before destroying it. His favorite sources of inspiration are: road signs, pots, white tiles framed with black joints. His sources exist in many various forms and colors. Hence, his pots can be found gold-plated or covered with military camouflage and fluorescent colours. A giant gold-plated pot was exhibited in the Forbidden City in Pekin and then hung above the Potsdamer Platz building site in Berlin, before finding a permanent space in the Georges Pompidou Center, in Paris. Flags are an important source of inspiration as well, originating from Vietnam, Soviet Union, Cuba or France and giving a political aspect to his work. Some of the pieces of Jean-Pierre Raynaud are considered monumental. Among them, the Noirlac Abbey stained glass windows and the “Carte du Ciel” in la Grande Arche de la Défense in Paris. Decorated by the “Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur” in 1997, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, through the integrity of his work, appears as a great actor in the Contemporary Art Movement.
