Jeff Slomba
Biography
Various traditions of figurative sculpture provide reoccurring touchstones in Jeff Slomba’s works that often create contemporary translations of subjects and imagery from art history. His current work uses both analog and digital sculpture processes to collage figurative vignettes that explore themes of disembodiment and transience in the circular format of the Italian renaissance tondo. Other recent projects have included works commissioned by Wave Hill, Bronx, NY; Connecticut Sea Grant; Mill Street New Haven; the Connecticut Office of the Arts; and the ongoing interdisciplinary collaboration Geospatial Sculpture. Slomba’s formative years were spent in Virginia, Philadelphia, and Buffalo, NY. He holds a BA in fine arts from the College of William and Mary, and an MFA in sculpture from SUNY at Buffalo. His studio has been based in Connecticut since 2002. He is a professor of sculpture and 3D design at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
