Australian leisure rituals and stories of rural community spirit are told through bold colour works that are both nostalgic and modern and have become a hallmark of Jo White's work. Jo's childhood, spent on sheep and broadacre farms in rural New South Wales, has greatly influenced her depictions of life in rural Australia. Often using old photograhs as a starting point, Jo's works pay homage to an earlier time. Paintings of work and play which reflect this harsh Australian climate within a vast cloudless sky. While it wasn't always pretty, it was honest, and the toil and the labour, the reward of making something from this earth, continues to be passed down through generations.
