Biography
From a very early age, this outstandingly gifted marine artist showed a keen interest in the sea. After leaving school he spent time first hand at sea, in and around Britain, and later he traveled to the Middle East. On his return to England he studied at the Liverpool College of Art, spending as much time as possible painting and sketching Liverpool’s mighty river Mersey. John Stewart’s first hand experiences and deep knowledge of the sea have enabled him to portray so perfectly the mighty forces of sea and wind, coupled with the beautiful effects of clouds borne up from great marine horizons.
