Johnny Yazzie was born in 1945 on the Navajo reservation. His father was a medicine man and his mother a traditional weaver. He began painting at a young age, and even without formal art training, exhibited an amazing ability to portray his subject matter. He is well-known especially for his Navajo and other landscapes, which are displayed in museums, galleries and collections, both private and corporate.
