Biography
Joshua Tarplin makes photographs about images, image-making, image-history, and the consequences of image-consumption. He remains anxious about the power of images to regulate imagination and infect the meaning of one’s life. In our time of an accelerating global network of images built up and evolved over millennia, Josh wants to uncover the potential lost in lineages of images progressively articulated throughout history. Josh is always working to offer a stress-free point of view of the specific powers images offer to those who choose to identify with their imaginings. Josh holds degrees in Art and the History of Art from Yale University, has exhibited nationally and internationally, has won awards (most recently for his book Sealegs), and lives in Los Angeles with his cameras Wallace, Frank, and Camille.
