JP Greenwood was born in 1977 and grew up in San Juan Capistrano, Ca. until the age of 17 when he moved to San Francisco to attend his first year of college. Photography had always been an interest but it wasn’t until a year later while enrolled at USC that he realized that this could be a career choice as opposed to simply an interest. It was then that everything shifted to pursue an education in photography.
He began his professional photography career after obtaining his BFA degree at Art Center College of Design in 2001 where he learned to navigate the world of commercial photography. He was fortunate enough to travel the country extensively on assignments for national magazines and advertising agencies. A partial client list includes: Vanity Fair Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Simon & Schuster, Forbes, Miller Coors, Y&R, Newsweek, American Express, Travel & Leisure Magazine, ESPN Magazine, Taca Airlines, Anthem Blue Cross, Gourmet Magazine, Roxy, LA Dodgers, Los Angeles Magazine, Land Rover, National Geographic Traveler, Star-bucks, Time Inc, and Morgan Stanley. Through these assignments his work has been used for a variety of applications including; magazine and book covers, billboards, bus shelters, and a number of other forms of print and electronic media worldwide.
While on assignment he would find himself drawn to capture photographs on the side for personal use. These scenes were consistently of the surrounding environment, involving a structure of some sort being the center of attention, while playing down any distracting elements. The overall goal being to create a sense of importance to the structure that otherwise may go unnoticed. It wasn’t until about 12 years later that he realized that this type of approach to photography was the most fulfilling and he began to transition out of commercial photography in favor of fine art photography which has been his focus for the last 10 years. His fine art work has been collected and shipped worldwide by an extensive list of art collectors, designers, and individuals and has been shown in a variety of environments including but not limited to; The LA Modernism Show, The Beverly Hills Art Show, The Standard Hotel, LA 20/21, West Edge Design Fair, and The Palm Springs Modernism Show.
All work is produced by JP himself, from producing his original prints to the selection of museum quality framing materials. JP has been a resident of San Clemente, Ca. for the last 17 years where he spends free time surfing and fulfilling other artistic pursuits.
