Julia Rue is an interdisciplinary artist rooted in an awe of nature and her Christian faith. Her work redefines the space of art technology, harnessing technology to progress techniques of traditional painting. Her paintings maintain a traditional quality with unexpected and extraordinary depth. Julia invites us to contemplate the beauty in and beyond our physical world. Her current series “Lit Paintings” are paintings that transform when integrated LEDs are lit from behind. It is an exploration of the beauty of transience, the expanse of color, and the interplay between color and light. Julia frequently collaborates with other artists, engineers, and community partners. Public art includes The Borderline at MIT and Sao Paulo, Boston Hubweek, and murals at several distinguished institutions. Her work has been highlighted in many private and public collections including ArtFare, Weisner Gallery, Arts on the Marquee Boston. Julia has received recognition and grants from groups such as the Council of the Arts at MIT, Laya and Jerome B. Wiesner Art Award, and Disney Imagineering. In addition to her art practice, Julia holds a BS in Mechanical engineering and Product Design and is a design professional. She has worked with startups, high-profile companies, and institutions as an art director, product designer, and human-based engineer.
