Julio Zadik
Born 1916
Julio Zadik ( Guatemala 1916 - 2002 ) was a Guatemalan photographer. He studied photography in the United States in 1935 , but did not devote himself to photography in a professional manner. He was an entrepreneur who managed the family business "Lithography Zadik" and dedicated himself to taking photographs and exposing them occasionally in Guatemala and Argentina . In 1949 he participated in an exhibition on South American photography of the Panamerican Union and later in the Museum of Northern Arizona ( Museum of Northern Arizona ), where he coincided with other photographers such as Lola Álvarez Bravo or Martín Chambi . He participated in different exhibitions and competitions until the 1960s , but although I continue taking photographs he stopped showing them in public. In 2007 his descendants recovered his work and began to exhibit it. A foundation was also created that edited the book "Julio Zadik, modern photographer in Guatemala: 1937-1965" with a significant sample of his work, estimated at about 35,000 negatives . The first exhibition that was made from these recovered works was made in the Museum of Art of El Salvador in 2009 . The first retrospective in Spain takes place in 2015 . His work includes numerous images of life at that time and is among other places in the CIRMA Photo Library and the Museo del Barro , as well as in different private collections.
