Karen Barbour
Biography
Karen Barbour has shown at Jack Hanley Gallery, Anthony Meier Fine arts, and Fouladi Projects gallery to name a few. She has a BA from UC Davis and an MFA from The San Francisco Art Institute. Barbour works on her paintings over the years (30+ plus)—building up imagery by masking off old decisions, adding color washes and obsessive patterning. In one painting, a landscape with a running horse is turned on its side and two figures are added on top: 'Things I’ve seen during the day, facts I’m reading, old sketchbooks, rare diseases and mental disorders, fashion magazines, garden design, etc. combine in a spontaneous, narrative way.'
