Kolja Raic Kohnen was born as the youngest of three brothers on 27.08.1985 in Herten. After graduation in 2005, he began studying physics at the Ruhr University Bochum. Apart from his very proficient programming skills, which he was able to extend in various internships, Kolja was a very athletic person. In his youth he was an active and successful decathlete and hurdler. Kolja was the most honest person we know. He never lied. No matter what, if you looked into Kolya's eyes and asked him a question, he told the truth. He has never spoken badly about other people. And it makes us infinitely sad that he has never managed to see for himself how much good was in him. It was the simple, little things that made him happy, such as a piece of Parmesan or a mischievous game, a walk in the castle park, a beautiful song or a sausage perfectly grilled by him on all sides. Kolja has shown us that in life you have so many little things that are beautiful, and he has made us very happy for a long time. Kolja used art as an outlet for his illness. Apart from painting, his great passion was literature and music. He listened to classical as well as modern pop, rock and jazz music. His favorite authors were u.a. Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse and Helge Schneider. His estate also contains a lot of own stories and poems. Kolja was very likely to become ill with bipolar disorder as early as puberty and in 2008 entered psychiatric treatment. From then on he fought with various therapies, hospital stays and medication for the disease. Unfortunately, he was not strong enough and gave up the fight on 16.11.2012.
