Kris Hargis
Kris Hargis makes arresting self portraits that invite the viewer into a private, internal space. His pastel and charcoal drawings walk a line between focused rendering and expressive, gestural marks and erasures which converge in a deeply compelling whole. Kris received his MFA from Boise State University in 2016, where he continues to teach, and his BFA from the University of Kansas in 1998. In the summer of 2014, he completed a two week residency at the Penland School of Crafts, Penland, NC. His work was recently exhibited in Curiously Alighted: Contemporary Drawing Practices at Sheehan Gallery, Whitman College, Walla Walla, WA. He has received commissions from Portland Center Stage to create images for their 2009/2010 season. Hargis has also been featured in numerous group exhibits throughout the Pacific Northwest, including drawing(s) 40+ artists/200 works: A 25th anniversary exhibition, Art Gym, Marylhurst University, Marylhurst, OR. He recently led an intensive self-portrait workshop in historic Atlanta, ID.
