Biography

Leon Adriaans is for many people a textbook example of a painter from Brabant. In one respect Adriaans works with themes of agricultural life, his carthorses and his pigeons. Yet this is only the point of departure for the artist for whom painting is a matter of life and death. Existential and universal subjects were for him what it was actually all about: the very lifeblood. As he wrote, the untraveled domains of the soul, the quest for insight. This searching expressed itself in multicoloured, direct paintings with maximum power of expression about euphoria, consolation and forgiveness, about the creative fire and the painter’s hell.
