Biography

Lorna's art is deeply personal often reflecting her emotions and memories and interwoven with more idyllic and imagined elements of the environment. She draws inspiration from her experience of living in between countries and continents, exploring ideas of socialization and one’s sense of belonging. Her paintings and collages incorporate images that spur the viewer’s nostalgia. Color and pattern informs her practice and her layered works visually recollects memories of time and place. Her latest works explores the dichotomy between new and old by over layering images from vintage magazines with current images or paint, thus creating new narratives or re-imagining history. She has a number of works in public collections in South Africa and private collections in South Africa, Angola, Netherlands, Ireland, Britain, Germany and the USA. Most recently, she has been featured in the 16th edition of Create Magazine. Lorna continues her practice at her home studio in Yorkville, Illinois where she lives and works.
