Lulu Meng
LuLu Meng is a New York-based artist born in Taipei, Taiwan. Being growing up in Taiwan, living briefly in Australia and Netherlands, and now working and living in the United States, she is engrossed by how external factors influence the formation and fluctuation of one’s identity, and the similarity and difference between humans and cultures. Having previous background in costume design and chemical engineering influences the way I construct my artwork. I am interested in using elements that relate to human body and carry certain sensible implication. Objects such as clothes, sleeves, shoes and buttons are accumulated to create the final presentation. In the overall look, repetition provides similarity and a sense of group. While approaching to an intimate proximity, the uniqueness reveals itself. Meng has exhibited internationally in Bay Art, Cardiff Bay, United Kingdom; Museo El Castillo, Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia; The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, NY; 47 Canal Gallery, New York, NY; YiArt, Taipei, Taiwan; Cuchifritos Gallery&Project Space, New York, NY; Flux Factory, Long Island City, NY; QCC Art Gallery, Oakland Gardens, NY; Hall of Science Museum, New York, NY; Power Plant Gallery, Durham, NC; 384 Broadway, Chashama, New York, NY; El Museo de Los Sures, Brooklyn, NY; William Harris Gallery, Rochester, NY; Berkeley art Center, Berkeley, CA; Brodsky Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Cloud Gallery, Taipei, Taiwan; Her residencies and awards include AIM Fellowship, Bronx Museum of the Arts; Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program, New York Foundation for the Arts; Residency Unlimited, US; Experimental Film Virginia, Cape Charles, VA; Vermont Studio Center, US; Kala Art Institute, US; DordtYart Residency, Netherlands; Waasland Artistic Projects, Belgium.
