Biography

My work explores renewal, regeneration and rebirth through many veins such as the creative, the spiritual, and the physical. I use natural forms and plant structures as my points of departure, layering drawings until they move largely away from the original sources yet still connect to them through inference and gesture. Forms emerge, mutate or dissolve among layers of translucent watercolors and opaque gouache. Large forms are built from smaller parts; lines bulge and grow outward, swinging back to the overall structure before weaving through again and developing into something else. The flexibility of watercolor allows me to explore these themes in an intuitive manner, utilizing techniques that exist in an area between the calculated and the unexpected.
